Homebound Takes Cannes by Storm: Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor Shine in Neeraj Ghaywan’s Emotional Masterpiece
Bollywood just had a moment on the global stage — and it’s all thanks to Homebound, the powerful Hindi drama that premiered at Cannes 2025 to a thunderous 9-minute standing ovation!
Directed by Masaan filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound is a deeply moving tale of friendship, ambition, and identity set in a remote North Indian village. The film stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa as two childhood friends dreaming of becoming police officers — not for power, but for dignity. As they chase that dream, their bond is tested in ways they never expected. Janhvi Kapoor and Reem Shaikh round out the stellar cast.
But the buzz doesn’t end with the story. The film is backed by a powerhouse team — Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Adar Poonawalla, and even Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese, who joins as executive producer.
Cannes Premiere: A Red Carpet & Emotional Rollercoaster
On May 21, Homebound lit up the 78th Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section. Not only did the film leave audiences in tears, but it also left the filmmakers in tears — with Ghaywan and Johar visibly moved by the thunderous applause.
On the red carpet, Janhvi Kapoor paid tribute to her mother Sridevi in a stunning blush pink lehenga gown by Tarun Tahiliani, while Ishaan turned heads in a bold maroon velvet outfit by Gaurav Gupta. The internet, of course, had opinions — with fans dubbing them “bride and groom at Cannes!”

While Homebound has premiered to rave reviews, there's still no official word on its theatrical or streaming release. But one thing’s clear — this film is the one to watch in 2025.
